Nearly two weeks ago, the Martial Council of Clans put out a statement on their willingness to assist local businesses harmed in the recent catastrophe. The announcement had seen fleets of privately rented shuttles moving toward the Red Planet, relocating businesses and families into locations temporarily set up to help them get back on their feet.
However, now that the debris from the asteroid is no longer an immediate threat, a different kind of traffic has picked up: Corporate haulers.
In light of the Council's offer to assist with the rebuild, Vulca Group has met with representatives of the council in efforts to secure a contract to drill into mineral-rich areas of the planet. Vulca Group representative Joseph G. Dillinger stated at the Council has refused these contracts many times over the last decade, despite the current situation, quote, "necessitating the acquisition of minerals for sky city maintenance now more than ever".
In a broadcast today on Media.NET's public access channels, Dillinger had this to say: "As you all know, there have been countless tragedies on different Sky Cities and Space Stations lately. No matter how safe and technologically advanced those environments are, we oftentimes forget the awesome and raw power of a cosmic event like the one we - as one people - managed to overcome. Unfortunately, overcoming the odds does not always signal the end of the story. Prime Materials are always needed to rebuild and reinforce a structure, from a humble habitational unit, to a thriving multi-leveled space station. Without maintenance and support, any structure decays, and gets decommissioned. We all have heard this story, we all have seen it, and we do not want it for any of you.
That's why, we here at Vulca Group, are asking for your support. Mars is a planet rife with the raw materials required to ensure that our Sky Cities, our Space Stations, our Homes remain functional and secure. Unfortunately, the Council of Clan does not see things that way. Entangled in ancient and outdated tribal mentalities, they are denying us permission to mine for these much needed materials and will rather see you - and your homes - reduced to orbital trash. With your support, we can ensure a future for the human race.
Raise your voice, tell your corporate representative to raise theirs, and make sure the outdated politics of the Council of Clans are revised to make way for progress - for all of us.

While it is uncertain if Vulca Group will be permitted mining contracts in the near future, other corporate entities including salvage processing groups situated in the Belt, Nu York and Neu Berlin construction groups and the city planning sectors in Mega LA, Xin Beijing and Novaeu Montreal have come out in support of the petition. Tensions certainly seem to be on the rise, with some private citizens now fearing that the Council will revoke their offer of assistance to those who've already made the move.
