New Geneva Executes Order 66-116

Throughout Sol System's history, it was normal to see corporations owning space stations and colonies to handle their own security contracts. The capital each corporation had oftentimes represented the time of contract, length, and service quality. It would make the difference between hiring a starting and humble sized security company and hiring professional personnel from the likes of ARES, Armitech, or Matsumoto. Oftentimes, space stations and colonies were considered "gray", where through an off the record agreement with different groups, certain activities that weren't exactly deemed legal would be allowed if certain properties and individuals were left alone. It was an activity that was allowed as long as the status quo wasn't affected in any way, but that has ended now, as of this morning, New Geneva issued Executive Order 66-116. Through this order, New Geneva now has direct control over the issuing of security contracts to certain space stations or colonies that either had very lax approaches to corporate security or no approach at all.

Traditionally, when something like this happens, there's a bid for the contract. Long time residents of Cocoon Station may remember the contracts issued to Aichi Interstellar, Arboria Tactical Security, and Armitech Private Defense. And while those contracts were successfully handled and issued, it appears they weren't of the liking of New Geneva. So in an unprecedented move, New Geneva issued a statement in which they revealed they have already assigned the contracts to a grand total of 3,768 habitats between space stations, floating cities, and colonies.

Effect immediately, we have distributed 3,768 security contracts to megacorporations Advanced Research and Experimental Systems, Armitech, and Matsumoto-Zaibatsu to bring security and wellbeing to habitats where their owners have allowed corruption and criminality to run rampant and cause tens of millions of Sol Credits in damages to corporate property and corporate personnel. The mentioned megacorporations are hereby sanctioned by our Authority to either take on these contracts themselves, or assign them to smaller security firms.

New Geneva has strict rules, laws, and guidelines that were created to guarantee the security and wellbeing of every corporate law-abiding citizen, and security now more than ever needs to be upgraded to our most demanding specifications. Executive Corporate Order 66-116 allows New Geneva and Corporate Security Providers to bypass and, if necessary, override the authority of corporations that own habitats to ensure their security.

While the maneuver is not exactly without merit, it has caused discomfort and even protests from smaller security firms, however, no official statements from any of these security entities have been made. This is particularly more evident when we take into account the station of our own Cocoon Station, through the past year, several new gangs and syndicates have arrived and established themselves, taking over portions of the station and claiming them as their turfs, what makes this especially difficult is that those turfs (For example, Sector Two's Old Town) are traditionally considered neglected by the corporations, and in Old Town's particular case, with the Morpheus Group Management closing their XX Casino to focus on Luna, the corporate abandonment if more evident. Corporate Order 66-116 intends to correct that mistake.

But what is the position of Cocoon Corp, the owners of Cocoon Station? In light of New Geneva taking over and overriding the decisions and sometimes even management of different habitats, one would think that perhaps Cocoon Corp had something to say, perhaps something to object, but one would be surprised. Cocoon Corp issued their own statement earlier today, not only agreeing with Corporate Order 66-116, but even offering their full cooperation to New Geneva.

“Greetings, Corporate Denizens of Cocoon Station.

In light of the increase of criminal actions in Cocoon Station, Cocoon Corp has been approached by New Geneva, discussing the benefits and privileges of Order 66-116, Cocoon Corp has always put the welfare and fortune of every denizen in high order. After a lengthy dialog with New Geneva, as well as suggesting a few improvements to Order 66-116, Cocoon Corp declares that we are in full cooperation and are ready to work with our providers in any way, shape, or form that is required from us. We expect every denizen of Cocoon Station will feel the same way.

Cocoon Corp thanks you for your cooperation.”

It's also important to note that with this order, Network Systems Incorporated (NSI) is also being given more resources and authority when it comes to regulating NET presence. You may recall that NSI has been already working on the NET re-structuring and there have been reports of hacking cells being traced down and detained. It's expected that NSI will formally make significant changes to the NET protocols in the coming weeks.

But what of the red planet? Mars, the world that was liberated from the influence of New Geneva during the Mars Wars, is not exactly news feed friendly, but sources close to Olympus Mons have revealed that there appears to be a shift in the government and that one of the new orders involves security of their own. There are talks of several training facilities throughout the red planet that aim to train warriors from different Clans in the use of unique and hidden arts to guarantee the security and stability of Martian Citizens, so it appears that Mars will also increase their security as rumors of past corporate intrusions have been rampant before.

What are your thoughts and opinions on the matter? Do you believe that New Geneva overriding habitats to impose their brand of corporate security will represent safety and wellbeing for you and your loved ones? Is New Geneva in the right to directly appoint megacorporations to these contracts instead of auctioning them as they regularly do? Do you believe Mars rising up to the occasion and issuing their own brand of security is a sign of more tensions between Mars and New Geneva? Could this be the beginning of a new conflict?
