Your comms beep with an alert. When accessed hard-core, raw, street edge music plays while a series of color-hued video imagery flash rapidly across your viewer. Each scene depicts some action or the aftermath of action in various locales throughout the system: Earth, the floating cities, orbital colonies, Luna, Mars, the Belt; they are all presented within a short thirty-second block. Each hue adds to the feeling of the imagery, blues, yellows, reds; combined with the music it is quite stimulating. The final scene of the video fades away at the end of the thirty-seconds revealing a single still portrait with the animated title superimposed over the top. A mechanized voice, highly augmented through editing software, urgently whispers, Keeping It Real with Sable Gentry.

“Yesterday I made an enraged plea for someone to do something about the filth infecting Old Town.”

Sable begins her show directly with a video feed of the colorful stretch of the station she’s referring to.

“I make no apologies, though I’ve received mixed reviews of the results.”

The video pans slowly across storefronts as she continues.

“Why is it that so many people are willing to bend a knee to whoever is wielding the bat never to raise a hand in their own defense? Then, when the cavalry arrives, these same sheeple bemoan the necessary conflict and look poorly on their saviors? What kind of psychology keeps a freed slave a willing slave to the same abusive masters even when the masters are set to heel?

Some of you Edgers out there answered the clarion call issued in yesterday’s broadcast.”

The video cuts to a graphically bloody scene of an auged woman laying waste to five Bosos in the middle of the street.

“On more than one occasion throughout the sleep cycle, I was able to catch a shadowrunner doing what our benevolent corpos refused to do. These samurai aren’t getting paid to put their lives on the line for you residents of Old Town and yet here they are.”

Another series of videos pop up in smooth transitions showing various armed individuals facing off against the gang members leaving blood in their wakes.

“Cleaning up your block. You’d think there would be some gratitude shown. You’d think there would be some celebration to be had knowing that there are devils fighting on your side. You’d think that these heroes would find some veneration from the masses. But then, there’s this.”

The fighting videos abruptly blackout and a slow fade-in occurs with another video showing people emerging from their conapts, apartments, and shops glaring at the edgerunners or downright refusing to look at them.

“Seriously? I mean, seriously. This is how tyrants stay in power, sheeple. Grow a set.”

A small chime sounds.

“This is Sable Gentry, keeping it real.”
