ONN: Asteroid Update for Luna Colonies

In the face of a potential impact of an extinction level asteroid on the surface of Luna, we have just received this brief from the Luna Civil Defense Authority:
The planetary defense orbital platforms are said to be online and operational. The platforms are armed with an array of artillery level railguns whose purpose is to destroy the incoming asteroid completely, or failing that, to break it up into smaller pieces where atmospheric entry will burn them to smaller sizes, in order to reduce the potential damage that they can inflict.
The difficulty with this is as Luna has no atmosphere, the aforementioned solution is not available to the colonies.
The Civil Authorities are confident that with a fusillade of appropriate power, the asteroid will either be destroyed, or have it's trajectory altered. Again, to all of our listeners on Luna, seek shelter immediately. All traffic to and from Luna colony is being rerouted and/or grounded. Stay indoors and seek shelter beneath the surface if it is available to you. Check on family and the infirm to ensure their safety.
