The corporate community is reeling after experiencing a backlash of epic proportions when the news was made public earlier today in New Geneva: Aegis Macrogenetics, Luna Branch Office Division has been sold off.

This comes as a surprise considering the history making contract the megacorporation had penned with Matsumoto-Zaibatsu on Luna, and while an official comment from Kazuhira Ishii, CEO to Aegis Macrogenetics, has not been published just yet, rampant speculation is running wild in the community.

With rumors of misappropriated funds for the construction of The Fort on Earth (which you may recall was destroyed by an attack from Martian forces over an alleged appropriation from a Martian mineral,) unhappiness between the top brass and the directorate of the Luna branch office, and even that incident that saw a chimera that Aegis Macrogenetics had kept in their facilities breaking out and terrorizing the Lunite population, it remains unclear what exactly drove this unprecedented decision.

We'll have more information for you as soon as it becomes available.

UPDATE 1: Orbital News Network has just learned that Genetectic, the medical megacorporation led by Dr. Ophelia Faith, has acquired the Luna branch office division of Aegis Macrogenetics. This includes personnel contracts, assets, projects and patents both ongoing and completed, and are currently in negotiations with Governor Bancroft for the building that housed Aegis Macrogenetics on Luna.

Orbital News Network was able to obtain a very brief, but very enlightening statement from Dr. Faith concerning the situation around the Luna Branch Office.

“We are thrilled to bring the Aegis Macrogenetics Luna branch office into the Genetectic family, and a renewed focus for all involved. The future looks bright for scientific advancement.”

Ever so concise and direct, we hope to hear more from Dr. Faith or a Genetectic spokesperson concerning this time. We'll have more information for you as the story further develops.

UPDATE 2: Aegis Macrogenetics has posted a statement from Kazuhira Ishii concerning the transactions, you can read it in its entirety below.

“Aegis Macrogenetics started long ago in a small laboratory, with the intent to change and revolutionize the world. In time, we had the elements and the resources to bring hope to uninhabitable worlds by creating self-sufficient colonies and by bringing terraforming efforts to where no other corporation had reached before. We were one of the first corporations to help Advanced Research and Experimental Systems on Mars, and we were the last corporation to leave after the Martian Native Uprising. We have literally set our limits to be the stars themselves, and we haven't stopped creating and innovating.

After certain events that took place over the past years, the board of directors and yours truly feel like the Luna branch office is heading into a different direction than the rest of Aegis Macrogenetics. Rather than force them to do something they clearly don't feel like doing, we have come to the decision to start negotiations with Genetectic over the past several weeks, culminating into the actions that are taking place today. All contracts, as well as assets, personnel, and projects that the Luna branch office had worked on are now property of Genetectic, We are confident that while Aegis Macrogenetics will give its full attention and focus to multiple terraforming and colonization projects on The Belt, Genetectic and Dr. Ophelia Faith, with their unrivaled professionalism will be a good home to our now former employees and assets. Thank you.”

While the amount Aegis Macrogenetics received from Genetectic remains undisclosed, let us not forget that mergers and acquisitions, as well as takeovers aren't all that uncommon. Aegis Macrogenetics releasing a division that was perceived as lucrative however, remains uncommon and will continue to generate speculation. It is expected that the Luna Branch Office's assets, projects, contracts, and personnel will be assimilated by Genetectic in the coming weeks.

What are your opinions on the matter? Do you believe that this move will bring more stability to the Luna branch office (now officially part of Genetectic)? Are the working conditions on Genetectic better than Aegis Macrogenetics? Does this represent a brand new future to the people whose status with the corporation remained in the air?
