General Rules

The rules apply equally to everyone, including staff and roleplayers. Not knowing them isn’t an excuse, so please review them regularly. Most player disputes should be handled personally, and reporting to Linden Labs is encouraged if things escalate, but if harassment continues, moderators can step in and take action to suspend or ban based on concrete evidence and cross-referencing.

RESPECT

Every avatar represents a real person. Treat out-of-character interactions with respect and in spirit of collaboration. Please respect roleplayers and their scenes, and avoid using push scripts, cages, orbiters, loud gestures, or excessive sounds and particles. Let’s keep the space fun, welcoming, and immersive for everyone.

HUMANOID AVATARS

Please check the Race panels for approved avatar types. Fantasy creatures, supernatural beings, mecha, child/loli, paws, fully furry/antrho or large animals are not permitted anywhere on the sim, including cyberspace.

LIFEPATH

When creating your character’s background, feel free to invent people, places, and events that fit within Dark Future lore, keeping these details small enough to explain their absence in official history. Characters may have ties to established Corps or Groups but cannot hold or have held major power or influence within them. Additionally, characters cannot come from the distant past or future, as time travel doesn’t exist and cryogenics are only recent in development. Lastly, aliens are not part of the Dark Future universe and are not allowed.

ETIQUETTE

Keep roleplay smooth and fair by taking turns; one emote per round gives everyone space to react. Use third-person perspective (“he,” “she,” or “they”) and the /4 command with the Interlink System to describe actions, thoughts, and expressions. When needed, use ((double parentheses)) for out-of-character (OOC) messages. Always observe a scene before entering, and make sure your character has a logical reason to join without disrupting the flow.

NO METAGAMING / POWERGAMING

Get consent for permanent actions, and in-character (IC) and OOC knowledge separate. Don’t dictate others’ outcomes or use information your character hasn’t learned IC. Don’t use thought-posts to avoid consequences or play flawless "Mary-Sue" characters. Make them realistic. No alt-farming, fund-passing, or bug exploits.

The system logs all game mechanics and transactions. Your credits will be detected into the negatives if you're caught exploiting.

FACTIONS

Anyone is welcome to create their own faction at any time, and any rental can be used to host a faction or business. You're encouraged to start your own gang, crew, or security force. Make your mark in the setting.

RENTALS

Rentals are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Only one rental per person at a time. Please keep scripted objects to a minimum to help reduce sim lag. Objects that exceed the land impact limit and remain for more than 24 hours will be returned without warning. Overdue rentals will be returned after 24 hours. Refunds will not be issued if a rental is terminated due to suspension or banning from the sim.

VEHICLES

Vehicles are available through the RP system and designed to fit the sim’s lore. Renters may rez their own modern or futuristic vehicles within a 100LI limit, but military vehicles like tanks and mechs are not allowed due to the urban setting. Renters must pick up their vehicles after use- forgotten ones will be returned, with your rental refunded.

AFKING

To keep roleplay areas immersive and active, please avoid idling OOC in them for long periods (up to a day). If needed, you’ll be kindly asked to move or may be ejected. Feel free to idle at the landing zone or within your rental space.

PETS

Domestic animals and drones are welcome as pets, but chimera, exotic, wild, and farm animals are not allowed. Pets should be only be companions not used as spies, weapons, or chat relays.

EROTIC PLAY

All characters must be 18 or older—child, underage, or loli-style avatars are not allowed. Only topless nudity is permitted in public areas, but explicit, pornographic avatars are only allowed within rentals or hotel rooms.

PvP Rules

CONSIDERATION

By default, we encourage Freeform RP where possible. Basic d100 can always help dictate story-driven combat too. Communication is key. An OOC conversation prior to initiating any type of combat can do wonders.

INITIATION

Posting the intent to do combat is always required before initiating combat with a player. This includes Keylog attempts.

DEFENDER'S CHOICE

When starting an RP combat scene, the defender gets the choice of Freeform, Meter, or Dice. As mentioned in Consideration, it is up for negotiation on what mode you both settle on.

FLEEING

The defender may choose to flee from combat if they do not wish to engage in PVP combat. In order to flee from a fight, there must be a reasonable path for escape. If there are no reasonable paths of escape, the defender may choose FTB (Fade To Black).

FADE-TO-BLACK

FTB to end combat is considered forfeit. Your character needs to play to consequence such as knock-out or serious injury if you do this.

INSTIGATION

Don't use defender's choice to instigate a fight in your favor. Remember, we're here for story, not to be a competitive jerk. If you're going out of your way to do this, you'll be considered the aggressor and the player on the receiving-end, the defender.

WEAPONS AND GEAR [DICE PVP]

Dice gear can be changed prior to initiating combat. Be sure to make a post to indicate this clearly. Melee and Small Arm weapons can be equipped prior to initiating combat as well. This is played as being drawn from a concealed state.

REASONABLE RIGHT TO LIFE

While losing a conflict can lead to knockouts or serious injury, only you decide how your character's story ends— capture, permanent harm, or death require your consent. RRTL protects against unwanted RP, but it doesn't grant a license to avoid consequences through power-gaming. Keep in mind, certain actions may imply consent—if your character does something recklessly fatal, that can be treated as consent to their death.
