Scientists have detected abnormally large activity on the surface of the sun, consisting of solar flares the magnitude of which have not been seen in decades.
Solar flares, for those who do not know, are localized, short-lived, and intense variations in brightness on the Sun's surface, lasting from minutes to hours. They are thought to occur when magnetic energy stored in the Sun's atmosphere is suddenly released, often near sunspots or active regions.
"They are going to be a solar event of some magnitude..." says researcher Dr. Colin Hayward, " They have been known to emit massive amounts of magnetic energy." he adds.
"We may see an interruption of communication services due to this event. communications may see some protracted levels of interference. so it's advisable to remain out of cyberspace until the event passes."
Dr. Hayworth also assured that, other than affecting communications, little else would be affected by the solar event.
